Repeatable RTK flights and photogrammetry serve different but complementary purposes.

Repeatable RTK Drone Flights
Programmed flights allow the drone to revisit a planned route during every scheduled capture.
Flight altitude, direction, waypoints, camera orientation and other mission settings can be reproduced as consistently as site and weather conditions allow. This creates a more meaningful visual comparison than would be provided by individually planned flights conducted at different stages of the project.

Aerial Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry uses a series of overlapping aerial photographs to digitally reconstruct the site.
Depending on the project requirements, the captured data can be processed into high-resolution orthomosaic maps, 3D models, point clouds and other visual outputs for documentation, measurement and review.

Consistent Aerial Documentation Over Time
Construction sites change continuously. Buildings rise, earthworks progress, equipment moves and new areas become inaccessible. Repeatable RTK flights create a consistent aerial reference throughout these changes.
Before the first capture, Skyshot develops a programmed flight mission based on the site boundary, required coverage, altitude, viewing direction and intended deliverables. The mission can then be repeated during subsequent visits. This approach supports:

Why Repeatability Matters
Compare like with like
Progress is easier to understand when images are captured from similar positions and perspectives. If the altitude, camera angle, or flight path changes significantly between visits, stakeholders may find it difficult to determine whether apparent differences are due to construction progress or simply to the camera position.
Programmed RTK flights help reduce these inconsistencies. When combined with careful mission planning and post-production alignment, they create a clearer visual record for comparisons, presentations and project films.

Aerial Photogrammetry
Transform Aerial Images into Site Information
During a photogrammetry mission, the drone captures numerous overlapping photographs across the project area. Specialised software identifies common reference points within these images and processes them into a coordinated digital representation of the site. Depending on the required scope and processing method, deliverables may include:

Orthomosaic Maps
Orthomosaics provide a clearer overall site reference than a single aerial photograph and can be used for project documentation, planning discussions and progress reviews.

Digital Surface Models
A representation of the visible surface elevations across the captured area, including structures, terrain and other site features.

3D Site Models
A digital three-dimensional representation that allows the project area to be viewed from different angles.
These models are useful for communicating site conditions, reviewing spatial relationships and preserving a record of each construction stage.

Progress Comparisons
Maps or models captured on different dates can be reviewed together to show changes across the site.

Aerial Time-Lapse with Repeatable RTK Flights
Fixed time-lapse cameras provide a continuous record from selected viewpoints. Repeatable RTK drone flights add a wider aerial perspective to that story. During each scheduled visit, the drone follows a programmed route using consistent waypoints, altitude, flight direction and camera orientation. The resulting photographs or video sequences are then selected, aligned and stabilised in post-production.
When the imagery is assembled chronologically, it creates an aerial time-lapse showing the project’s transformation from above.
The result can be delivered as a standalone aerial time-lapse or combined with fixed-camera time-lapse, ground filming, conventional drone footage, interviews and motion graphics to create a complete project film.

Skyshot uses the DJI Matrice 4E with RTK capability for selected mapping and construction-documentation assignments.
